Terminology:

BTN - This is the main billing telephone number at a location. The telephone company decides which number will become the customers main BTN.

Direct Billing - Direct billing occurs if a customer Pre Pics themselves at their local phone company and does not notify the carrier of their new phone number(s).

PIC Code - Stands for Primary Exchange Carrier. The designation of customer use of a long-distance network as the primary carrier for long distance phone service. Each carrier is designated its own number or code, hence PIC code.

PIC Freeze - An agreement between the customer and the local telephone company where the long-distance carrier will not change without the customer's permission at the local phone company. Also known as PIC Restriction or PIC Block.

Reseller - A Company that redistributes long distance services of a commercial carrier and retails the services to the public. The rates and billing may vary from carrier to carrier.

USF - Stands for Universal Service Fund. FCC mandated fee where the monies collected go into subsidizing phone service in remote locations, and providing Internet access to schools and libraries.
